About RISE

RISE (Research Infrastructure for large-Scale network Experiments) is a wide area SDN testbed that enables experiments and verifications of SDN technology in broad area using the network environment consists of OpenFlow switches and virtual servers installed in Japan and overseas.

It is possible to build a flexible network, such as changing the communication path depending on the type of application.

Overview of RISE Services

RISE is the world's largest SDN experimental environment build on JGN (High Speed R&D Network Testbed).
SDN is a technology that separates the function of the network equipment to data transfer and control which enables the controller to be implemented by programable software. This makes possible to realize flexible network configuration and control depending on the user's idea, such as changing the communication path for each application type.

RISE is a wide area SDN experimental environment realized by overlaying the SDN (OpenFlow) switches on JGN, and possible to conduct experiments in a real environment using the equipment installed in Japan and overseas.

Network Configuration
RISE network connecting JGN access points in Japan and overseas

RISE network is constructed by OpenFlow switches and VM servers that are installed at 11 domestic sites and 4 overseas sites, and providing experimental environments.
It is also connected to the large scale emulation testbed called StarBED. This makes possible to conduct an experiment that combines RISE OpenFlow plane and massive PC server resources by connecting to StarBED via JGN.
