National Institute of Information and Communications Technology’s ICT Testbed Research and Development Promotion Center has launched IoT Gateway Service in October 2017 to provide convenient and easy access to NICT’s testbeds in IoT demonstration experiments in various fields.
NICT aims to accelerate the competitiveness of ICT industry in Japan by advancing its research and development in the ICT field. In order to ensure the competitiveness of ICT industry in Japan, we are working to achieve practical application and systematization of research and development results by integrating development and operation of Testbeds.
The testbeds provided by NICT can be used for research and development as a verification platform that can integrate technical verification and social demonstration including IoT related technologies. The Testbeds can be used by any researchers if their purposes are research and development.
“IoT Gateway Service” provides easy access to NICT Testbeds from user’s test environment and sensors. We can lease preconfigured VPN routers with a network connection to the users and the data can be transmitted and received securely to virtual servers or virtual storages which are installed in the Testbeds through communication environment such as the Internet.
With SDN multi slicing technology, each virtual server and virtual storage within the Testbed and the network are logically separated and isolate each user. Also, VPN connections from the user environment to the Testbeds are encrypted. “IoT Gateway Service” makes it easier to use the wide range of resources provided by the Testbeds for the purpose of analyzing and storing data from various sensors installed by users.
We also have Raspberry Pi as sensor housing machines that are available for users.
