Network Structure
Overview of JGN2plus Network

JGN2plus network has the following network capabilities to allow various field tests as the largest testbed network in Japan.

-  On the layer 2 level, network based on ethernet connectivity by layer 2 switches.

-  On the layer 3 level, network based on IP connectivity with IPv4/IPv6 dual stack capability.

The equipments which consists the JGN2plus network includes layer 2 switches and layer 3 routers, and has 59 access points nationwide.  Backbone networks which connects the backbone points consists of networks from 1Gbps to 20Gbps.  Other access points are connected by bandwidth such as 100Mbps.

JGN2plus provides optical testbed network environment, which allows experiments which uses optical transmissions up to terabit networks.

-  Optical testbed network which connects Koganei - Otemachi - Hakusan access points (Detail)

JGN2plus promotes collaborative activities between Japanese researchers and researchers outside of Japan by the following:

-  5 international circuits for R&D

JGN2plus promotes R&D activities nationwide and is also contributes to the Japanese local activities by

-  Interconnecting with various networks by PAP / PNW

JGN2plus NOC (Network Operation Center), localed at Tokyo Otemachi (Chiyoda-ku) handles all of the operation and maintenance of JGN2plus network, including installation procedures such as path creation, and maintenance procedures such as repairing networks on failures.
