DCCS Trial

Since 2022, the ICT Testbed Research and Development Promotion Center has been providing DCCS (Data Centric Cloud Service). DCCS is a testbed service that allows users to access a wide variety of data and AI processing via Web APIs. It has been utilized in numerous research projects, contributing to various achievements.

We plan to expand the service to enable more users to create new value through DCCS. Improving the usability of DCCS is a key area of enhancement to ensure it is accessible to a wide range of users. To this end, we have launched the "DCCS Trial", a usability evaluation experiment designed to improve the user-friendliness of DCCS.

Service Overview

This service aims to improve the usability of DCCS by allowing a wide range of users to try out DCCS APIs, and by collecting operation logs and survey responses. Although this service provides a limited set of DCCS APIs, users can still gain experience to develope applications using DCCS.

Usage Image

As part of the DCCS Trial environment, a virtual environment will be deployed and provided for each user.
This virtual environment is provided with Jupyter Hub installed, allowing users to access it via the internet (※) from their own PC (e.g., workplace or university computer), and use the various APIs.
※Access is established through SSH port forwarding.
※Connection details and user account information will be provided once the environment is ready following your application.

Jupyter Hub

The DCCS Trial environment comes pre-installed with the “Environmental Quality Short-term Prediction” information asset, which is one of the data linkage and analysis functions offered by DCCS. We recommend starting with this asset to learn how to use the APIs and experience application development using DCCS.

Available Functions

The functions of DCCS currently provided in the trial are as follows.
Additional platforms and new functions will be offered sequentially.

  • Data Integration and Analysis Functions
Note: This functions are executed using xDataEdge, which can be run in a local environment and provides functionality equivalent to DCCS.

Eligible Users

This service is available to individuals affiliated with companies and research institutions (including universities) within Japan who are considering using DCCS.
Note: NICT may refuse access based on their discretion.

Usage Period

14 days

Starting from the business day following the receipt of the notice of service activation from NICT.
Note: Extensions to the usage period are not accepted.

Application Method

Please fill out the DCCS trial application form (download here) and send it by email with the subject line "DCCS Trial Application" to the DCCS Trial PIC at (dccs-trial[at]ml.nict.go.jp).
※Please send it with @ for [at].

Process from Application to Service End

  1. Application
Fill out the application form by referring to the instructions and submit it to the DCCS Trial PIC at (dccs-trial[at]ml.nict.go.jp).
  2. Receipt
The DCCS Trial PIC will accept your application.
If there are any issues or missing information in your application, they will contact you.
Please note that there are limited resources, so there is a cap on the number of virtual environments that can be provided at the same time.
If the number of applications exceeds the limit, it will be processed in order of submission, and you will be informed if there is a waiting period.
  3. Virtual Environment Setup
A virtual environment will be set up for each user.
Please wait for several business days to one week.
Once the setup is complete, the assigned staff will send you an email with access information, usage instructions, and the usage period.
  4. Service Start
Please use the access information and instructions in the email to access the virtual environment.
  5. Service End
Once the usage period has ended, the service will automatically be terminated, and you will no longer have access to the virtual environment.
No further actions are required from the user to end the service.

How to Fill Out the Application Form

Please review the terms and check the box if you agree (you cannot use the service without checking the box).
(5)Functions and Platforms (Check the ones you wish to use) Please check the functions and platforms you wish to use. Some functions and platforms may have specific terms of use.
If this is the case, please also check the box to agree to those terms (you cannot use the service without checking the box).
※Currently, only the "Data Integration and Analysis Function" is available.
Data Integration and Analysis Function This feature provides sample application scripts, necessary data, documents, etc., as "information assets" for use with the data integration and analysis function.
When using this "information asset," you must agree to the "Information Asset Terms of Use" (you cannot use it without agreement).
(6)Agreement to Data Collection and Survey For improving the DCCS trial and the service quality of DCCS, usage status and survey responses will be collected.
